Tuvinian folk tale "Boralday"

Long ago, when the Sut-Hol lake was still a small puddle, and the Sambur-Ula mountain was a small hill, the old man Boraldai lived.
There lived an old man Boralday. He had neither cattle nor yurts. He wandered from ala to ala. Where he was hungry, he did not stay there for one day, and there, where he was fed, he spent nine nights there.
One day the old man lost his way and wandered about searching for ail.
Boraldai goes, tired and hungry, barely able to pull his feet. Suddenly he sees a noisy river descending from the mountains, and on the shore there are many traces of sheep. "The big aal is near," the old man rejoiced. Soon he noticed a black yurt, similar to the toros. Boraldai entered it and saw an old woman by the fire.
The old woman poured him tea without milk and asked:
"Where are you going?"
- I'm going from where I was. I go to where I have not been yet. Tell me, old, who was standing here?
- There was a settlement of Karata-khan. For a sip of milk and for a handful of peeling husks I served the khan. Once upon a time the evil spirit took off - one-eyed, Shulbus and began to devour cattle. Khan got scared and left, leaving me.
"Are not you afraid that Shulbut will eat you?"
"I will deceive him." When he comes to my yurt, one eye closes. Shulbus will see that I, too, are one-eyed and he will leave, "said the old woman.
Boroldai asked:
- Tell me how to find the way to aalu khan.
"Get up first." On the pass there will be a fork. And on the left road, do not go, "said the old woman.
Boraldai climbed the mountain and saw a narrow path leading to the right, and a wide road to the left.
"The old lady was mistaken," thought Boraldai, and walked along the wide road.
Soon went to Boraldai, finally, met his large flocks of black sheep. He began to look for the shepherd and suddenly saw Shulbus. Stunned by Boaraldai, and Shulbus looked at him with one eye and ordered:
"Go, old man, my sheep to a large stone at the foot of the mountain."
He led a flock of sheep to a large stone the size of an entire cow and waited for what would happen next?
Shulbus turned the stone and pushed Boraldai into the pit. The old man is flying down, and behind it the sheep are falling behind the sheep. Boraldai fell to the bottom of the pit, looks: on one side - a large hearth, and on the other - henna: a cable for the lambs.
The last in the pit went Shulbus and ordered Boraldaiu to tie the sheep with the gion. Then Shulbus gave the old man a large brazier.
The old man was delighted, he thinks that Shulbus will order the ram to fry. And Shulbus says:
"Preheat the brazier." Tell me when it turns red, like blood. I'll fry you and eat.
He said and lay down to the hearth.
The old man began to warm the brazier, and he was grieving. "Do not see you, Boraldai, more white light, do not walk you through the mountains and steppes."
"Well, how hot has it been?" Shouted Shulbus.
"No, it's too early," the old man answers. After a while, Shulbus again screams, louder than before:
"Is the brazier ready, old man?"
"No, it's too early," Boraldai says, shaking with fear.
Shulbus came up and saw that the brazier, like blood, was red. Shulbus wanted to grab the old man, but he threw a brazier into it and burned his one eye. Shulbus shouted in a wild voice and began to catch the old man, but he could not catch him.
Then Shulbus realized that Boraldai was hiding among the sheep, and he began to throw them out of the pit one by one. There are fewer sheep left. Boraldai does not know how to save him. He sees that the last ram has remained. The old man jumped to his feet and pressed himself against the wool. Shulbus and threw him with the sheep at the top.
So, Boraldai was free. He gathered all the sheep and drove them to the owner of a poor yurt.
Boraldai remained with the old woman, and they began to live without need and grief. And the blind Shulbus is still wandering around the world looking for Boralday, but he can not find it.
